There are so many different approaches to training…especially with current technology…that those of us in instructional design consulting are frequently asked, “Is there a “best” way to train?”
Our clients would love an easy answer that would give them a training methodology that would be inexpensive, timely and, most of all, effective.
There are no easy answers but what we can tell them is this about two instructional design components:
- Learn-at-your-own pace training can work as long as employees are truly motivated and they are just brushing up on skills or concepts rather than learning them from the ground up.
- Virtual training may be well-priced but, to be effective, it needs to be driven by a facilitator. Too many participants drop out when they fail to grasp a key concept. They need an expert to help them, one-on-one, to understand and move on to the next step. If you can’t bring participants together in an old-fashioned style classroom, bring them together virtually with an instructor as guide and as a resource.
