4 Ways to Get Smarter

Is it even possible to get smarter?

Intelligence is not a static measure. In fact, it flows and stretches according to the way we think about ourselves and the way we live our lives. If you are interested in designing courses to help people get smarter, here are four factors that can make the difference:
  1. Practice and strengthen your ability to focus. This means eliminating distractions when participants are working through a task, practicing, getting feedback and reflecting upon what worked and what needs improvement.  It also means removing the temptation to multi-task.
  2. Follow your doctor’s advice. That’s right. What you eat affects your behavior and ability to think clearly. Have a protein-rich breakfast to start the day off right. And do that after you have had a decent night’s rest. A good sleep keeps you fresh and able to tackle the tough problems each day.  Do you keep an eye on the food being served at your sessions?
  3. Think positive. Believe that you can continue to learn and develop your analytical powers and you will.  How are you incorporating positive thinking into your instructional designs?
  4. Share your life with others who have different points of view. Your exposure to varied ideas and approaches to problems will enrich your own mode of thinking. Are experience levels and backgrounds diverse enough in your workshops?
